TUTORIAL: FIVE SQUARES IN A SQUARE

Five Squares In A Square

Finished Block measures 12”

Fabric Requirements:

1- lighter color, 1- medium color, 1- dark color.

For each block you will need a 6 ½ “ square in a dark, 1- 20”x 3 ½” strip each in the light and medium.

Sub-cuts:  light and medium strips are cut down into 2- 3 ½” squares each color.

Light and medium strips cut down into 2- 6 ½”x 3 ½” rectangles each color.

Photo note:  I cut enough here for two blocks:

Joining each color into  2 block sets with the squares and end to end units for the rectangles.

Add the square units to either side of the block and press seams toward the center.  Place the squares in opposite orientation on each side.

Add rectangle units to the top and bottom placing medium and light colors together.  Press seams toward the outside rectangles.

Here is a finished example to give you a better overview:

Daphne added a small black stop border, and borders in turquoise and floral that echo the block materials.
